Camp Echo Volunteers Donate Thousands of Hours!

Volunteers are an important part of Camp Echo. We began officially
tracking volunteer hours on July 1, 2001.
During FY02, 139 volunteers donated 5,448 hours, 39.20 hours per person!
During FY03, 136 volunteers donated 3,440 hours, 25.29 hours per person!
During FY04, 157 volunteers donated 3,400 hours, 21.66 hours per person!
During FY05, 157 volunteers donated 3,443 hours, 21.93 hours per person!
During FY06, 139 volunteers donated 3,254 hours, 23.41 hours per person!
During FY07, 150 volunteers donated 3,784 hours, 25.22 hours per person!
During FY08, 157 volunteers donated 4,053 hours, 25.82 hours per person!
During FY09, 140 volunteers donated 3,725 hours, 26.60 hours per person!
During FY10, 150 volunteers donated 3,759 hours, 23.86 hours per person!
The 9 year total is 34,125 hours.
At $20/hour, that's over $675,000 in donated hours over the past 9 years.
Volunteeer hours are logged in a notebook with a page for each person.

We invite high school students to join us for raking and wood-chipping in the spring.
Attendance is limited to the first 50 to sign up.
For 2010, the High School Work Weekend is scheduled for:
Friday-Saturday-Sunday, April 23-24-25
Registration is first-come, first-served, and is open for current 10th, 11th, and 12th graders
To reserve your spot, return your "Permission to Treat" and "Code of Conduct" forms to Meredith Stevens
in the Camp Echo Office at the McGaw YMCA (1000 Grove St, Evanston, IL 60201).

Summer Camp Volunteer Staff
|
Many older adults and Echo alumni who are otherwise employed return to Echo during the summer as volunteers.
Volunteer summer staff must go through the same application, interview, and selection process as paid staff.
A two-week minimum commitment is requested.
Alumni positions include Health Officer, Head Counselor, Social Worker, Senior Maintenance Staff, and Utility.
Benefits include child care for children under 8 and placement of camper-age children in certain programs.

The Camp Echo Committee meets monthly from September to April, and once during July at camp, to discuss current issues with the Camp Director.
Camp Echo Commmitte members are former staff, parents of current and former campers, and friends of Echo.

Camp Echo alumni are invited to join the Echo Spirit Team, adults who help with bus departures and arrivals at the McGaw YMCA in Evanston.
A couple hours on a Friday or Saturday afternoon or a Sunday morning will help make a stressful time more pleasant for parents and campers.
For 2010, Spirit Team members are needed on these dates:
- Saturday, June 12 - departure (7:45 am to 9:15 am)
- Friday, June 18 - arrival (2:00 pm to 3:30 pm)
- Saturday, June 19 - departure (7:45 am to 9:15 am)
- Thursday, July 1 - arrival (2:00 pm to 3:30 pm)
- Sunday, July 3 - departure (7:45 am to 9:15 am)
- Friday, July 16 - arrival (2:00 pm to 3:30 pm)
- Sunday, July 18 - departure (7:45 am to 9:15 am)
- Friday, July 30 - arrival (2:00 pm to 3:30 pm)
- Sunday, August 1 - departure (7:45 am to 9:15 am)
- Friday, August 13 - arrival (2:00 pm to 3:30 pm)

Camp Echo alumni who work full time but still long for that camp counselor experience can help out by working a layover.
Help give the summer staff a well-deserved break while supervising campers in fun activities for a day or two between sessions.
For 2010, Layover Helpers are needed on these dates:
- Friday-Saturday, June 18-19
- Thursday-Saturday, July 1-3
- Friday-Sunday, July 16-18
- Friday-Sunday, July 30-August 1

A regular crew of hearty souls (21 years old or older, please, and no children) comes to camp in the spring to help open camp in time for Outdoor Edcucation, and in the fall to help close camp for the winter.
For 2010, the Adult Work Weekends are scheduled for:
- Friday-Saturday-Sunday, April 30, May 1-2
- Friday-Saturday-Sunday, October 1-2-3
The Property Manager mails out invitations about two months prior to each weekend.
