Participants arrive at Echo mid-afternoon, are greeted by our staff members, meet their counselors and group members, and move out to Birches.
The afternoon consists of a rotating schedule designed to help participants get used to Camp Echo, tour the areas of camp, learn important rules and procedures, and complete the required swim evaluation and health check-in.
After dinner, the evening program kicks off with a special welcome ceremony for Voyagers at Birches participants.
If the group decides to do so, they may also attend the Main Camp Opening Campfire.

Voyagers at Birches Daily Schedule

Voyagers at Birches participants have a large say in what their schedule looks like. With input from the entire group, counselors
will work to create a daily schedule that reflects the desires of everyone.
Because Voyagers at Birches live in tents away from Main Camp, they make the majority of their meals on site. Meals tend to
correspond to the meals that are served on Main Camp, they are just prepared at Birches.
Before retiring for the night, participants share the triumphs of their day, listen to others, and set goals for a new day during Taps Talk.
Voyagers at Birches paricipants also go on a mid-week trip to a local paintball course.
At the paintball course they will have a chance to let loose and play a few different games.
On the morning of departure,
the group spends their time packing their belongings and collecting lost and found items. The maintenance crew then arrives to help take the luggage to the buses.
At 10:30 camp time, participants load the busses, which depart for the McGaw YMCA in Evanston promptly at 11:00 camp time (10:00 in Chicago).
Each camper is provided with a sack lunch for the bus ride home.
