Arrival Day
Participants arrive at Echo mid-afternoon, are greeted by our staff members, meet their counselors and group members, and move into their cabins. The afternoon consists of a rotating schedule designed to help participants get used to Camp Echo, tour the areas of camp, learn important rules and procedures, and complete the required swim evaluation and health check-in. After dinner, the evening program kicks off with a special welcome ceremony for TYC participants. If the group decides to do so, they may also attend the Main Camp Opening Campfire.

TYC Participants make their own Daily Schedule
For the five days participants follow the basic camp schedule from wake-up through service task. During flag raising, the entire camp gathers to greet one another, and then goes to Morning Reflection, which is a thought or piece of advice for the day. After breakfast and service tasks, TYC counselors present the group with options of morning activities. Each participant is free to go to the activities that interest them the most. In general, activity periods will last roughly an hour, but may be longer or shorter depending on the desires of the group.

After a busy morning, TYC participants gather together for lunch in the dining hall and then retire to their cabins for Saska. Saska is a rest period, during which participants can re-charge and relax by doing quiet activities such as napping, writing letters home, or reading. During the afternoon, the TYC group may decide to do an activity together or seperate into smaller groups for choice activities. These activities may include completeing a challenge on the team elements course, going tubing or skiing, playing a sport, or making up an activity just for their group! Occasionally, the group participates in Fun Swim and can choose to go swimming, skiing, sailing, practice their archery skills, visit Trading Post, or play sports on the field.

TYC participants eat dinner in the Dining Hall and typically remain with their group for the rest of the evening. They enjoy time as a group swimming, using our team elements course, or participating in a teen evening program.

Before retiring for the night, participants share the triumphs of their day, listen to others, and set goals for a new day during Taps Talk.

TYC paricipants also go on a day-long outing to Craig's Cruisers. At Craig's Cruisers, the group can use the batting cages, go karts, and mini-golf area. Click here to visit the Craig's Cruisers website.

Departure Day
On the morning of departure, participants attend a regular breakfast and complete their service task. They spend the remainder of the morning packing their belongings and collecting lost and found items within their cabin At 10:30 camp time, participants load the busses, which depart for the McGaw YMCA in Evanston promptly at 11:00 camp time (10:00 in Chicago). Each camper is provided with a sack lunch for the bus ride home. Bus progress towards Evanston is posted on the internet. Please follow the bus updates link on our home page.
