Camp Schedule
Caring ... Honesty ... Respect ... Responsibility
Campers arrive at Echo mid-afternoon, are greeted by our staff members, learn what cabin they are assigned to, meet their counselors and cabin-mates, and move into their bunks.
The afternoon consists of a rotating schedule designed to help campers get used to Camp Echo, tour the areas of camp, learn important rules and procedures, and complete the required swim evaluation and health check-in.
After dinner, the evening program kicks off with Camptivity skits and is followed by an opening campfire filled with lively songs and laughter.

Five-Day Regular Schedule
|
For the five days campers follow our typical daily schedule.
This schedule starts off with flag raising, during which the entire camp gathers to greet one another, and Morning Reflection, a thought or piece of advice for the day.
After breakfast and service tasks, campers go to three instructional Camptivity classes.
The classes remain the same for all five days.
After a busy morning, campers join their cabins for lunch and then retire for Saska.
Saska is a rest period, during which campers can re-charge and relax by doing quiet activities such as napping, writing letters home, or reading.
Once re-charged, campers participate in an activity with their cabin group, giving each cabin time to bond and build new friendships.
Before and after dinner, campers have choice periods called Fun Swim and Twilight Fun.
During Fun Swim, campers can go swimming, skiing, or sailing, practice their archery skills, visit our Trading Post, or play sports on the field.
During Twilight Fun, campers can go fishing, kayking, or canoeing, have a snack at our Trading Post, or play sports on the field.
Campers also have the option to go on a horse trail ride during these periods.
After Twilight Fun, the entire camp gathers to lower the flag and participate in an evening program.
The evening programs vary from night to night, and can include outdoor games, races, skits, or carnival activities.
No matter what the program, campers of all ages have the opportunity to interact and laugh together.
The final evening program of the session includes an awards ceremony, where outstanding efforts in camptivity classes are recognized, and a closing campfire celebration.
Before retiring for the night, campers share the triumphs of their day, listen to others, and set goals for a new day during Taps Talk.
During a two week session, the entire camp takes a day-long break from the regular schedule for Olympics.
Campers choose new Camptivities for the second week, which follows the five-day regular schedule
Olympics is a day-long, friendly, all-camp competition.
Each session the Olympics have a new and fun theme; past themes have included Pirate Olympics, Beach Party Olympics, and Caveman Olympics.
During this program, the camp is divided into four teams.
Each team chooses a special name and color based on the theme, and campers volunteer to compete in various sports and activities throughout the day.
When campers are not playing in a game, they join counselors in cheering on their teammates.
The festivities end with an all-team cookout, and a relay race called the "steeplechase" that has campers completing whimsical tasks throughout camp.
At all times, counselors encourage campers to practice good sportsmanship and radiate positive energy.
On the morning of departure, campers attend a regular breakfast and complete their service task.
They spend the remainder of the morning packing their belongings and collecting lost and found items within the cabin.
At 10:30 camp time, campers load the busses, which depart for the McGaw YMCA in Evanston promptly at 11:00 camp time (10:00 in Chicago).
Each camper is provided with a sack lunch for the bus ride home.
Bus progress towards Evanston is posted on the internet.
Please follow the bus updates link on our home page.
