Schedule
Caring ... Honesty ... Respect ... Responsibility
Participants arrive at Echo mid-afternoon, are greeted by their LIT Directors, and meet the rest of the LIT participants.
The afternoon consists of a rotating schedule designed to help participants get used to Camp Echo, tour the areas of camp, learn important rules and procedures, and complete the required swim evaluation and health check-in.
After dinner, the evening program kicks off with Camptivity skits and is followed by an opening campfire filled with lively songs and laughter.
Participants spend the majority of the afternoon with the LIT group, but will also be paired with a cabin that they will work with throughout the session.
Typically, LITs eat the first night dinner with their cabins to get to know the campers and their co-staff.
LITs follow the Pathfinder and Main Camp Daily Schedule.
Participants experience a balanced program that teaches them leadership skills, provides counselor training, and offers lots of time for fun group activities.
In order for LITs to experience all facets of being a counselor, participants spend a different part of each day with their cabin.
Although the activities they do with their cabin varies each day, they typcially spend two or three hours acting as a counselor in a cabin.
LITs also gain leadership experience by helping out in two camptivities each day.
When LITs are not acting as a counselor, they engage in teambuilding activities, debrief their counseling experience, and enjoy the program areas of camp with the LIT Directors.
LITs go on a supervised off-camp outing.
Typically, they will go to the beach for the day, enjoy a lovely dinner in town, and see a movie or have dessert by the lake.
The cost of the group outing is evenly divided up among LITs and deducted from each LIT's trading post account.
On the morning of departure, LITs attend a regular breakfast in the Dining Hall.
They spend the remainder of the morning packing their belongings and collecting lost and found items within the cabin.
At 10:30 camp time, participants load the busses, which depart for the McGaw YMCA in Evanston promptly at 11:00 camp time (10:00 in Chicago).
Each LIT is provided with a sack lunch for the bus ride home.
Bus progress towards Evanston is posted on the internet.
Please follow the bus updates link on our home page.
