Rangers Description
Responsibility Achieved through a Non-Regimented Group Experience in a Rustic Setting defines this program at Birches. Freed from the daily schedule of Main Camp, entering high school students will explore cooperative living and personal responsibility in a flexible program developed together with peers and counselors. Living in platform tents at Birches, campers develop a code of conduct for the group, reach consensus on the group's daily activities, help with meal preparation and cleanup, and enjoy their remote wilderness location. Time spent on team elements and high ropes solidifies the group experience, as well as a three-day-two-night canoe trip on the Pine River (weather permitting). The experience culminates in a SOLO overnight where participants camp in the woods alone, gaining self-esteem and insights, while having time to reflect on their Rangers experience.

Special! Session 2 Rangers with Devil's Lake Rock Climb
Session 2 Rangers will experience one week of the traditional Rangers Program and then go on the Devil's Lake Rock Climb during the second week. Instead of the traditional three-day canoe trip, participants enjoy a week of beautiful rock climbing in one of the top-rated Midwest locations. They spend three plus days climbing incredible rock formations, with climbs ranging from beginner to advanced set by a qualified expert. By night, the group pitches tents under a canopy of stars in the beautiful dense oak forest. This incredible Wisconsin spot is a wonderful way to kick off the summer. (The SOLO overnight experience is still possible for Session 2 Rangers, depending on group dynamics and readiness.)
